Are you a job seeker? Well, unless you own your own business, I will argue that you are. As the average person changes jobs every 3 to 5 years, everyone is a job seeker, albeit not always an active one. For the expatriate professional, you may be reassigned or moving from place to place fairly regularly, so anticipating and planning for those changes is more than just important - it's essential.
I develop a job search action plan with every one of my expatriate professional clients. Managing all of the information that goes into tracking progress on that plan is not easy.
Jason Alba, author of I’m LinkedIn – Now what?, has provided a solution to this problem. He has developed an organizational system for job seekers which was inspired from his own struggle with keeping all of the information straight during his own job search. Through his system – JibberJobber – you can track company research, elevator pitches, interviews, resumes and thank you letters sent, as well as all of your important contact information related to your job search.
In Jason’s words, “JibberJobber is like a personal Customer Relationship Manager (CRM) for job hunters. Just as a salesperson would use a CRM system to keep track of their sales leads, JibberJobber helps you keep track of your job search and networking contacts.”
But, secondo me (in my humble opinion), JibberJobber is so much more than that. Inside this tool you will find that he provides links to websites and books, as well as guidance and other resources useful for the job seeker. The latest feature is the Job Journal (to find out all about it read his blog post about it) which allows you to track important events in a problem/action/results format which you can use to update your career marketing materials and prepare for interviews.
With the combination of a software development background, first hand experience of struggling with managing a job search, commitment to learning everything there is to know about career development, and a natural ability to connect with people online and off, Jason unique qualifications makes him the only one who could put together such a powerful and useful tool.
JibberJobber is a great example of of what I like to call CIT (Career Information Technology). It is amazing how far CIT has come. My first experience with CIT was using MonsterTrak to manage job listings and off- and on-campus recruiting when I was working at an university career center while pursuing my Masters Degree. This experience continued as a job seeker, being able to post-resumes and profiles online, as well as set up job search agents so jobs that met my own specifications came right to my inbox. Now we have tools like JibberJobber that serve almost every need available for anyone looking for a job. What will they(or Jason) think of next?
Because I believe in the power of this tool, I have partnered with JibberJobber to provide access to this tool to my clients.
If you are a job seeker, how do you currently manage all of the information in your job search? How could JibberJobber help you make the already time-consuming and at times stressful process of a job search a little bit easier?
